Abstract

Glaucoma is the most common optical neuropathy in the world and is characterized by normal or elevated intraocular pressure. Drug therapy for glaucoma includes the appointment of antiglaucoma medications in the form of drops for local application.
Aim. To study the assortment and of antiglaucoma drugs consumption on the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine and to compare the indicators of volumes and structure of their consumption in Estonia and Norway.
Materials and methods. The calculation of consumed drugs was carried out on the basis of DDDs /1000 inhabitants/day or DID.
Results. During the perid of 2014-2017, antiglaucoma medications were presented on the market from 52 to 65 TH based on 13 INN mainly of foreign manufacturers (62-74 %). The vast majority of the range of drugs on the market belonged to timolol (43-19 %) and its combinations (14-22 %). Drug prices varied over a wide range, but increased every year. The total consumption of antiglaucoma drugs in Ukraine was low: from 6.11 DID (in 2014) to 10.03 DID (in 2017) and in terms of consumption inferior to consumption in Estonia by 4.5-3.7 times and in Norway by 3.1-2.4 times. Timolol preparations and their combinations were leaders in consumption, due to their affordable price, a significant amount of generic drugs and a high proven effectiveness in the treatment of glaucoma.
Conclusions. A sufficient assortment of antiglaucoma drugs is presented on the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market. Volumes of drug consumption in Ukraine were low and inferior to two European countries.
