Summarizing modern approaches to smoking resisting in world and national practice

Aim. To analyze the prevalence of tobacco use in the world and to work out the international principles of tobacco control; to study the impact of regulatory measures on the tobacco smoking prevalence inUkraine.
Materials and methods. The results obtained with using of comparative analytical, systematic and logical methods of investigation and of analysis of scientific works and publications of domestic and foreign scientists, materials of WHO about global tobacco epidemic and statistical data for period from 2008 till 2017 years.
Results. Analyzed the WHO statistical data on the prevalence of tobacco smoking and trends in counteracting tobacco consumption in the countries of the world. Determined the influence of stakeholders on the functioning of the tobacco market ofUkraine. Processed the information on the development of the national tobacco market and the number of tobacco consumers in the country. Carried out an analysis of the regulatory framework for the sale and promotion of tobacco products inUkraine, which demonstrates a high level of state influence on identified processes.
Conclusions. Current trends in tobacco consumption indicate the effectiveness of implementing systemic approaches to counteracting tobacco smoke at the international and national levels, including the implementation of socially oriented measures aimed at protecting health and improving the quality of life, preventing morbidity, disability and mortality caused by consumption tobacco and exposure to tobacco smoke. Analyzed the results of monitoring the consumption of tobacco products inUkraine, which show a decrease in the share of smokers among the population of the country from 28.3 % in 2010 to 22.8 % in 2017. Defined the measures in the area of control over the spread of tobacco smoking in the country.
